The Dentist (and WIAW!)

My washing machine broke. My washing machine is like one of my limbs. The instant it broke, I felt useless, hopeless, and confused. It’s a Kenmore, and Sears can’t get out to fix it until June 28th. So yesterday, I decided to head to the laundromat and wash everything possible, so that hopefully we can survive the next 8 days. Seven loads of laundry cost $21, plus the Tide since I forgot to bring detergent. (I then hauled the baskets of wet laundry home to dry in my own dryer!!!) Dragging everything to the laundromat kind of sucked, but finishing seven loads of laundry in an hour was pretty awesome.

In other sucky news, today I had to go to the dentist. I friggin’ hate going to the dentist. I have the world’s most sensitive teeth, and it is absolutely excruciating when the hygienist does the cleaning. To make matters worse, my hygienist is super chatty, and chatting is tough when someone’s hands are in your mouth. But miraculously, he seems to understand what I’m saying.

My dentist said that I should try Arm & Hammer Enamel Strengthening toothpaste, which may actually help me more than the sensitive toothpaste I currently use. He also said I should use a Sonicare toothbrush. Anyone have one? At this point, I’ll try anything.

And now… dun dun dunnnnnn… It has been weeks (months?) since I’ve had actual food photos for…

I’m so excited. I’m telling you, when I get out of my routine, it is really tough for me to get back.

For breakfast, I had plain Greek yogurt, granola, fresh strawberries, and a little agave syrup. Sooo good!!!

For lunch, a salad… greens, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, garlic hummus, sliced avocado, EVOO, and balsamic glaze.

(FYI, I also tried the below soup for lunch, and it was gross. Do not recommend.)

Snack time, plain Greek yogurt again, with agave syrup and chocolate chips.

Dinner, grilled veggies. Sliced eggplant, plus Trader Joe’s veggie kabobs. And wild rice mix. Nom.

I’m getting hungry again just looking at the pictures! Time to make some overnight oats before bed.

So tell me…

Do you hate the dentist?

Do you do absurd amounts of laundry like I do?

What did YOU eat today?

  1. I love one of my dentists… after being my dentist from ages 3-17, he was my step-dad until I was 30, and I just LOVE that guy!! But the hygienists climb from the bowels of hell—I'll agree with you there. I'm also super-sensitive *and* brushing all my gums away with my thoroughness and night-time grinding. So I brush with Sensodyne gel (maybe it helps?), and I use a Sonicare (possibly incorrectly since my gums are still being brushed away), and my pride and joy is my NTS mouth guard, which just fits over my front two teeth on top to stop the grinding. FAB. As for the Sonicare, I think it's pricey for what it does. I used to date a guy who bought the $5 Oral-B one, and honestly… I'm not sure what the diff really is, besides the fact that I paid much more and continue to pay more for the heads… Do you believe that the sensitive teeth toothpaste works?

So envious of the yoghurt treats – Australia just doesn't have Greek yogurt like you guys do in America!

I feel for you with the dentist – I have sensitive teeth myself, although only to the extent that cold food/drinks hurt, at least teeth cleaning isn't awful. My dentist is bizarrely and overly gentle – he puts lip gloss and my lips and tells me to “take a little rest” after about every two minutes of him working on my teeth!

  3. I only do laundry once a week. I can only imagine how much laundry two kids produce!

The Greek yogurt / agave / chocolate chips combo looks soooo good right now. I'm out of yogurt, whaaaaa!

  4. Christine, you should pick a dentist based on how hot they are – then you can just gaze longingly into his eyes while he judges you on not flossing – oh wait, that's me. sorry. 😉

Loving your WIAW post. I had some yummy fruit in my breakfast too!

  5. Where's the cake? 😉
I hate the dentist – I find myself squeezing onto the armrests and have to remind myself to relax. I HATE when they talk to you and ask you questions. I mean, seriously – how are you supposed to answer??
I'm actually pretty ridiculous with laundry – I do a load everyday so it doesn't pile up. It's the ONE thing I actually have a handle on – haha 🙂

i'm getting hungry too! i want that salad, and its 6am in the morning. maybe a new breakfast for me. hehe.

  7. Christine says:

For some reason, my dentist insists on the Sonicare. He pimps the Oral-B, too, but said it's not great for sensitive teeth. Hmpf.

I used to grind my teeth really bad, and that probably contributed to the sensitivity I have now. But I think the biggest culprit was 10+ years of orthodontics.

I do think the sensitive toothpaste works. Before using it, I couldn't drink a cold glass of water. Now I can. Plus, it used to hurt so bad to brush my teeth, and it doesn't hurt at all now. So it definitely does something.

  8. Christine says:

Two kids, a husband, and me = a LOT of laundry. The family who lived in this house before me had five boys, so they left behind a HUGE washer and dryer. Yay!

  9. Christine says:

Take a little rest, awwww. What a nice dentist!

  10. That greek yogurt with agave and chocolate chips looks so delicious!

  11. Christine says:

I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO MENTION THE CAKE!

I'm with you on the load a day thing. I'm going to my mom's today to do laundry. I can't take it anymore! I did NO laundry yesterday!

  12. Christine says:

A hot dentist? Is there such a thing?

  13. ToddFromVA says:

I'm on the load (or two) a day plan as well; I find it's a great way to pass the time during conference calls.

  14. Sarah says:

I don't hate the dentist so much as I hate the act of trying to make an appointment with the dentist. They're ALWAYS booked at least 6 months in advance. So irritating! I did my first WIAW today!! WOohooo!

  15. Yeah, my Calgary dentist was the one who pushed me to get the Sonicare and I blindly followed… I'm just not *convinced*, you know?

And glad to hear that Sensodyne is more than just the Emperor's New Clothes of toothpastes… sometimes I wonder if I spend more on things for the illusion of benefit than for an *actual* benefit. 😀

  16. becca says:

As much as I hate not having my own washer dryer, it's really nice to have the laundry room one floor below me… and know that if I have 3 loads of laundry to do I can get it ALL done in an hour and a half instead of all day!

those grilled veggies look AMAZINGGGGGGGg. I cant wait to be able to BBQ!

  17. Allie says:

I hate the dentist.. so much. I would rather go to the doctor any day over going to the dentist!

I have sensitive teeth too.. my dentist gave me a prescription for sensitive tooth paste and it worked really well 😀

    Your dinner looked sooo good!

  18. Allie says:

    Chocolate chips…

I was distracted there for a moment. Anyway, 7 loads in one hour? I'm impressed! 1 load=5 hours for me. I hate doing laundry. Which makes it take longer. Good looking food for the day! And thanks for the un-recommend, I always look at those soups at TJ's and consider getting them before changing my mind. Apparently, good mind changing on my part. And I don't really mind the dentist, but it's certainly not something I look forward to. I hate the chatting as well! Why do they ALL do this? And I hate waiting 30 minutes for the actual dentist to come in, poke my teeth for five seconds, nod and leave. Can I just see the hygienist and go, please?

  19. Shannon says:

I'd be so stuck if our washer died…which I think it's scheduled to do sometime in the next couple of months…

We have a Sonicare and we love it…my teeth and gums have changed a lot since I had my daughter and the Sonicare has definitely helped!

  20. I think I hate actually making and dragging my butt to the appointments. but once i'm there i'm fine! =) Happy WIAW darling! welcome back!!!! ❤

  21. Hahaha this is going to make me sound like a nerd but I have a sonicare toothbrush and I LOVE it! My parents got it for me for christmas, and it rocks!!! haha

  22. Christine says:

I wish I could get into salads more!

  23. Christine says:

Teach me how to multi-task better. I can't do laundry during the day b/c I forget about it and it ends up sitting there wrinkling in the dryer.

  24. Christine says:

Yeah, it is pretty much the foundation of my nutritional principles!

  25. Christine says:

I know, it's so nice to have my own washer and dryer, but it means I am pretty much always doing laundry.

  26. Christine says:

Oh no, does that mean the world actually needs more dentists? Augh!

  27. Christine says:

Mmmmm, chocolate chips… I go through way too many of them.

  28. Christine says:

Did the prescription work better than drugstore toothpaste? My dentist mentioned it…

  29. LauraJayne says:

I have nightmares about going to the dentist. I hate it. I'd rather go to the lady-doctor. Or pull out my own teeth.

Not enough to make start flossing regularly though, but I should re-think that because maybe I could visit the dentist even less if I did?

  30. Christine says:

I nerd out over things like that, too. Give me a gadget, and I'm a happy woman.

  31. Christine says:

    Good to be back xoxo

  32. Christine says:

Good to know about the Sonicare, thanks!

  33. ToddFromVA says:

I'll teach you how to multi-task if you teach me how to care enough about my appearance that wrinkled clothes would bother me.

  34. Christine says:

I think perhaps I would not rather pull out my own teeth. 🙂

I floss every night. It doesn't make the experience of going to the dentist any less brutal!!! It does keep me from getting cavities, though!

  35. I dislike the dentist a lot, but I extra hate it when you get a chatty one. That bugs me. I was raised not to talk with stuff in my mouth! haha

Sorry about the noodle bowl. I bet the awesome looking eggplant probably made up for it.

  36. I used to LOATHE the dentist as a child….I think the flouride treatments that they used to do with the big styrofoam things filled with flouride made me gag every time and I hated it…also my gums would always bleed because I was so bad at flossing. Once I had to take care of the bills myself, I made it a habit to start flossing. Now, its so easy to get my teeth cleaned. I am in and out in less than 30 minutes.

oh yes, I leave the laundry to do when me or the kids don't have a single thing to wear and I am always thinking “we don't have any clothes” but in reality, I just haven't done the laundry in weeks.

  37. I hateeeee hateeee hateeee the dentist!!! Worst place ever. I don't even have bad teeth I just dislike people poking around my mouth!!

  38. I'm scared of the dentist, although mine is very friendly. But still … And I LOVED your cartoon! 😀

I always have crazy amounts of laundry because I tend to wash irregularly, and then things pile up … 😉

I ate mainly roasted chicken and nectarines today. Almonds. Tea with cream. (I was working at uni all day today and had to take all food for the day, so it was a three-serving amount of the things above. :D) Booooooooooooooring! 😀

  39. Rach says:

I've never minded the dentist, but it helps that I've never had tooth sensitivity, cavities or braces. 😉 Hopefully the new toothbrush and toothpaste will help out!

  40. Olivia says:

yay! I love seeing people's what I ate wednesdays!! Greek yogurt bowls are one of my favvve snacks (especially with chocolate and peanut butta!) ahh and your salad is SO up my alley; it literally looks like something I'd prepare myself on pretty much a daily basis. 🙂 ps, I used to WANT to be a dentist because I loved going there so much!! Unfortunately for that lost dream, it only took a few cavity fillings to change my mind 180. 🙂

  41. Sophia Lee says:

I haven't been to the dentist in 11 years. I don't remember the dentist at all! You should try to find a dentist that is a hottie. oh, and your dentist talks to you while your mouth is gaping open? LOL.

  42. Those pictures really made me hungry!! I went ot the dentist this week, too! He isn't super chatty, but does occasionally ask me things when he's working in my mouth. I always find that awkward, lol:).

  43. Cherry Lane says:

    Yay, the drawings are back!

  44. Allie says:

    Yes.. the prescription was better!
